Please note: I wrote this pre-COVID-19 but didn’t get around to publishing it. I hope you enjoy getting to know our new local restaurant a little more. At the moment, they are open and offering their menu!
As with all my blog posts, I was not offered any complimentary meals in exchange for this post.
A few months ago, locals in Bay Park, Bay Ho, Clairemont and nearby neighborhoods rejoiced as a new eatery opened in town: Bay Hill Tavern. This family friendly restaurant defines itself as a neighborhood bar and restaurant offering brunch on weekend mornings, hosting live music on weekend nights and open late 7-nights a week. Their mission is to offer a clean, open and inviting atmosphere serving cold beer, wine by the glass and well-executed cocktails and American-fare.
I had the pleasure to visit Bay Hill Tavern shortly after their grand opening and meet the friendly owner Jeff. He agreed to answer this short and informative Q&A so that people can get a better sense of the concept and also, put a name behind the establishment. By the way, I had their spot on cauliflower crust pizza “The Works”, along with a delicious cocktail.
1) Can you tell us a little about yourself and what made you decide to open Bay Hill Tavern?
I moved down to San Diego in 2005 and started my restaurant experience here after graduating college. I worked by way from a busser to bartender to management and now an owner. My first business was Working Class in North Park around 2 years ago and my partners and I wanted to expand into another neighborhood in San Diego.
2) Why did you choose to establish yourselves in Bay Park?
Clairemont and the current location was perfect due to the proximity to the freeway on a busy street, a high demand and low supply for eating and drinking establishments in an established yet growing neighborhood.
3) How would you best describe the Bay Hill Tavern concept?
Our concept is a down-to-earth eating, service oriented social space. We have TVs for sports, reasonably priced yet well executed food and a great variety of beer, wine and specialty cocktails. We want to be a destination for couples, families, groups or individuals for all occasions.
4) Do you have a kids menu?
We do have a kids menu and are looking to expand and have some fun with our mini visitors. Happy kids means happy parents and happy parents mean they will feel comfortable enough for the whole family to have fun with us away from home.
5) How has the community received you since you opened?
The reception from the community has been great. After several weeks of being open, we have a great set of regulars as well as new visitors every day. It’s great hearing their stories about their time in Clairemont and their previous experiences at this location. Our success is directly related to being part of the community and we’re looking forward to building that relationship.
6) Anything else you would like to add?
We’re looking forward to growing the business based on the tastes and feedback from the community. Our brunch menu has been slowly developing, we’re looking forward to adding live entertainment and we also open late with our full pizza menu available every night until 12AM.

Comment below if you have been to Bay Hill Tavern and would like to share your experience! I will certainly share all incoming feedback with Jeff, the owner.
